This additional information was provided by the Royal Hampshire Regiment Museum in Hampshire UK. Dear John (T) Here are some details of Ernest Alfred Tidridge for you. 35264 Private Ernest Alfred Tidridge was the son of Harry John and Emma Louise Tidridge of 2 Silverdale Road Southampton. He served with the 2nd and then 14th Battalions of the Hampshire Regiment and probably enlisted late 1915. I cannot tell when he was transferred from one battalion to the other but he was serving with the 14th when he died. The 14th (Service) Battalion (raised in Portsmouth) was sent to France in March 1916 where they remained until February 1918. The 2nd Battalion had been there since they transferred from Gallipoli in March 1916. He certainly did not enter a theatre of war until after the beginning of 1916 as he is only entitled to the British War and Victory Medal. He died of wounds at the Casualty Clearing Station on 4.8.1917 age 19 and is buried at Dozinghem Military Cemetery. This was probably then as a result of wounds sustained during the attack of 31st July. See pages I will put in post! You can read the war stories of the two battalions in 'Hampshire Regiment 1914-1918' by C T Atkinson. Any surviving service papers for Pte. Tidridge will be at the National Archives, Kew. I hope this helps. Regards Rachel Holmes The RHR Museum is a registered charity, which relies heavily on the generosity of the public.
